Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens has been a treasured part of Melbourne’s cultural life for more than 170 years and is much loved by generations of Victorians, as well as by interstate and international visitors. Melbourne Gardens extends over 38 hectares and houses a collection of more than 8,500 species of plants from around the world, along with the State Botanical Collection at the National Herbarium of Victoria. It is a picturesque haven for recreation and gathering and a centre of excellence for impactful horticulture, science, conservation, learning and engagement.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
