Flavia Barar

With a self-described “mish-mash” of interests and skills, Flavia Barar’s background spans architecture, urban design, planning and development (specializing in informal settlements), jewelry design, data curation, and spatial analysis. As AURIN’s data science officer, Flavia takes on projects involving data curation and analysis. She is responsible for creating an urban heat health indicator for the Australian Urban Health Indicator project. Her data analysis during the onset of COVID-19 provided insights into how data can help us better understand the housing and job market during periods of intense stress and disruption. Flavia understands the intricacies of working with data and why some data remains elusive.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
