The Shifters

As the name implies, The Shifters are a band with an ever-evolving lineup that consistently produces some of Melbourne’s most distinct punk music. Lyrically, they tackle everything from the IRA to the NBN, and their sound on record is defined by a wonky lo-fi quality that evokes The Fall circa ‘Dragnet’, as well as early Flying Nun releases. However, in a live setting, the band’s more unadorned sound reveals a power that’s less discernible on their recordings, truly making them a force to be reckoned with in the city’s densely-populated punk scene.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
