Young Seniors & Co

Young Seniors & Co is a response to the surprise a group of colleagues experienced when, at a personal level, they were moving into their 60’s, and at professional and community conversation levels, they bumped into pervasive, often-simplistic views of what it means to grow older.

Together, they believed there was a need for young seniors to challenge established ageing narratives.

YS&Co is being founded in 2022 to establish facts, looking at both history and trends; question pre-conceptions (including our own) and stimulate conversations, understand different viewpoints and model inclusive behaviours to expand the narrative to meet future population needs.

YS&Co Founder, Kathryn Bramwell trained as a physiotherapist and had a diverse career across direct clinical care; health start-ups; and consumer and professional advocacy before moving into health policy at state and federal levels. In recent years she’s completed studies at Melbourne University within the Masters of Ageing program. As a self-proclaimed ‘dynamic young senior’ who’s celebrated her ‘third twenty-first’, she brings direct experience and novel insights to conversations about ageing.

Kathryn, a positive provocateur, will curate the MPavilion event as part of the “Challenging the ageing narrative series” being initiated this year.

Wominjeka (Welcome). We acknowledge the Yaluk-ut Weelam as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet. Yaluk-ut Weelam means ‘people of the river camp’ and is connected with the coastal land at the head of Port Phillip Bay, extending from the Werribee River to Mordialloc. The Yaluk-ut Weelam are part of the Boon Wurrung, one of the five major language groups of the greater Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to the land, their ancestors and their elders—past, present and to the future.
