Watch moreWhile the pandemic has forced us to forgo international holiday destinations, there are strong economic, social and environmental benefits in shifting to local holiday destinations. In a scorching summer when we are seeking sand and sea, how does Melbourne entice its citizens to stay local and vacay in their own town? This panel, convened by Yarra Pools, brings together activists, artists and thinkers to explore the possibilities of how the Yarra Birrarung could become the ultimate summer destination.
The Yarra Birrarung has a long and storied history as a place to gather, connect and socialise yet over the years people have turned away and looked further afield for adventure and relaxation. As we continue to holiday more locally, this panel will consider what could encourage Melbournians to explore their own backyard (or in this case, river foreshore). From a swimmable river and new infrastructure, to exciting cultural events, this event will uncover the Yarra Birrarung’s full potentialities as an attractive place to stay and holiday in.
